where is my parrot's ninety million, i'm just asking 2003-12-28 - 9:23 a.m. We watched Winged Migration on video Friday afternoon. I don't think I had realized that the birds -- most of them -- were performers. I started to get highly suspicious as I was watching the film, especially when the Hyacinth Macaw let itself out of its wooden cage and took off over the Amazon. I couldn't see that happening in real life without the poacher coming out and screaming his head off at the sight of $20,000 on the wing! The "making of the movie" commentary on the DVD showed how the various birds were imprinted at hatching and trained to fly in formation near the ultra-light aircraft used to photograph the various species. It was an amazing effort. Yesterday we saw Paycheck, which was an action/adventure in the tradition of Impostor with any and all political commentary edited out of the script. It was fun but probably had less philkdickian flavor than any film I've seen based on one of his stories. There were two Australian parakeets in the film and I teased Cookie later by saying what I always say when I see parrots in a film: "An Amazon parrot could have played that part!" BF tried out his new smoker for the first time -- smoked catfish. The flavor was magical, like those snooty smoked fishes we used to get at the snooty VIP champagne buffets at a certain downtown casino. We also tried the Greg Norman chardonnay from Australia that I'd read about, and it was terrific.
