2009-02-12 - 2:01 p.m. Here's a somewhat baffling 15/30 hand where my opponent left a lot of money on the table. Young lady who's reasonably TAG raises, I 3 bet with KK, old timid tight dude 4 bets (uh oh!), blinds and poster get out, lady caps. 17 small bets. Flop 85 of clubs, some rag, say a 3. Lady bets, I raise, old dude cold calls 2, she calls. 23 small bets, now 11.5 big bets. AK of clubs is now a possible holding -- even the most likely holding if he were sane -- for the old dude. But I digress. Turn J of hearts. Check, I go ahead and bet despite the risk of a check/raise from JJ because I ain't giving any free cards to AK of clubs in this huge pot. Call. Call. 14.5 big bets. The good news is nobody has JJ. The young lady almost certainly doesn't have AA or the other KK because she would have put in another raise somewhere. Holding my breath... River is the 8 of spades. Check, I bet, old dude calls, young lady calls and flips over her QQ. Old dude has AA. The young lady looks at me with an expression of complete baffle-gag and makes some comment about how we got away cheap. Far be it from me to complain about losing less, so I made no more comment about it until the guy left the table, but hello? How do you not 5 bet that flop every single time? If you don't ram and jam when you're that far ahead, when do you ever? After he left the table, the young lady suggested that he must have put me on 88. Yes, I could have had 88. I could have had a lot of things. All the more reason to make money off me in those majority of situations where I have one of the plenitude of hands that he beats, wouldn't you think?
