bald eagle morning

2003-03-19 - 11:20 a.m.

A glorious day for an early morning bird walk in Fontainebleau State Park. Italicized species seen only outside the park.

Notable: Great views of a handsome pair of fully adult Bald Eagles perched over the marsh. An adult Bald Eagle seen earlier overlooking the lake, probably one half of the pair, who ignored the taunting of a Laughing Gull who mobbed a couple of times. A nice up-close view of a pair of Loggerhead Shrikes exchanging incubation duties on the nest. No Copperhead this time, but a nice Box Turtle species along the path. The Brown Thrasher was going through a repertoire of bird songs that would have made a Northern Mockingbird proud.
