Excuse the poor typing...I blame the free Krug & my missing keyboard issues...
Nov. 13, the road to Lumbini
A long driving day from Pokhara to Lumbini. We stopped for a quick check of the river outside town, where basic birds like Great Egret & Spotted Dove joined the list.
I saw my first Pond Heron & Rufous Tree Pie from the van. ...
However the real pride of the day was my life Crested Serpent Eagle, which tolerated a nice long look. Splendid!
Some other fine sights...
😍2 Sarus Cranes
😍my first Black Ibis
😍many fine lifers I've waited a lifetime to see like Asian Pied Starling, & Coppersmith Barbet.
😍my life Jungle Babblers, which I struggled to ID as I don't know the babblers...so I was unreasonably proud I'd just turned to the right plate as the guide made the call
For those of us who didn't fear large banana type spiders - tee hee - the catch of the day was a closeup look at Jungle Cat. I almost hesitate to say this but I saw this cat twice - first with the Lumbini guide & later, unbelievably, when walking alone after dark, when we came almost face to face before he calmly retreated back into the night.
I told no one in the group, as it seemed something you could not share, but some Australians drifting in late read my face as I walked back to the cabins.
What did you see, love?
A jungle cat.
They'd never heard of it.
This tweet/photo leaps ahead to Chitwan since I'm so far behind on my diary. But I think it captures the flavor of the fine birds we were getting.
