2004-05-12 - 9:35 a.m.

The Mississippi Kites are keeping a lower profile this morning. When one of the Kites tried to sit on the bare spot in the oak tree, a Northern Mockingbird sat above her head and made little forays downward from time to time. Then another Mockingbird flew over to join the fun.

The male House Finch has learned how to perch on the jessamine vines, lean over, and sip from the rear feeder. I don't think I've seen him successfully get nectar before, although I've often seen him try.

The Carolina Chickadee family stopped by for a quick visit.

My Halloween lilies look fantastic. Lots of spiderworts too. I have a red milkweed species just starting to bloom.

a few minutes later

The male Northern Cardinal is feeding fledglings -- at least four. That should keep him busy!

Hummingbird Report: So far it's adult male RTHUs, either singly or chasing, at the near feeder.
