2011-11-01 - 10:11 a.m. Although the life of Peachfront may look like endless vacation from here, there was a brief break in the festivities yesterday. Washed the car. Picked up my new set of reading glasses. Picked up some cash for the Farewell Gambling Tour...by the way, I decided to call it the Farewell Gambling Tour, because I might quit gambling now that most of the profit has gone out of it. With the poker economy in collapse, it's like the old days of the gem and mineral shows -- we do all the work and take all the risk, and the house/promoters take all the money. The remaining games are just too small to pull out a decent profit, in my humble opinion. So the pressure is off, and I'm taking this one last trip for the humor element, to see Macau, and for the extra super-doooper bonus SkyMiles. At some point in my busy day, I even tried to put gas in the car and found out that I didn't know how. Oops. Having driven the old Toyota with a magic button that you push to get the gas cap off for over 13 years, I was at a little bit of a loss. Had to ask another lady at the gas station to get the gas cap off for me. Yikes. Will have to practice the technique when I get back home again. Headed out in the afternoon in my new Fortune-Teller costume that I made myself. I was tired of being the unimaginative wicked witch and, anyway, black is not so flattering at my advanced age. So I put together the new costume. The plan was to walk around and check out the costumes in the French Quarter. I knew that my friend was having some financial reverses so I made a bit of a point of saying that I didn't want to spend money. I had the idea that we were going to catch the street car, stroll around, maybe drop into Harrah's for a minute to catch a drink and to play some low stakes. Well, the plan didn't quite work out. There was some mission creep, since his mother decided that she wanted to join us and she wasn't really up for taking the street car or walking. Instead, D. had to drive to the restaurant, then drive to Harrah's, and then since you have to play 30 minutes to get your parking card validated, I decided to start the Farewell Gambling Tour early. I had a white chip left over from wherever, so I pulled out $23 in cash, and I placed the 6 & 8 on the dice table. Don't try this at home; it's pure recreational gambling, not a way to pick up extra money. After awhile, I rolled point seven, and I discovered that I was down $18 but up one large glass of Jack Daniel's.
Then, finally, we did try to stroll a little, but the costumes when Halloween is on a Monday night are not of the same quality as when Halloween falls on a weekend. I can tell, because someone actually stopped moi and asked permission to take a picture of my costume. Heh. So far, as of Day One, of the gambling tour, I'm down $18. Yeppers, we're talking real high stakes gaming action now, tee hee.
