I made a copy of our itinerary and tried to somewhat figure out where we were going and to what climate zones. The itin includes the bird of prey "targets," and the guide also sent me the bird of prey checklist. With 71 birds on the list, it's a considerably smaller chewy chunk than trying to figure out the other species I might encounter.
Now I'm hunting down "regular" bird tours and getting their lists of birds seen or targeted. Then I'm trying to figure out which of these birds I'm likely to see myself. Then I'm finding out which of these birds is not, in fact, in the books, because the books are "Birds of Peru" and "Birds of South America: Non-Passerines Rhea to Woodpecker." Arghhhhhh. If it's endemic to Bolivia, I guess it's logical that it not be in the Peru book. But I'm tearing my hair here. Pray for me.
