By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

A Sadean take on Asimov's classic Three Laws of Robotics can be found in Roger Williams' NOW REVIEWED ON SLASHDOT!!! The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect. Adult readers only please -- explicit sex and violence. For updates on the "Dead Tree Project" and other topics, you may visit the official fan site, Passages in the Void..

ghost war

2014-09-25 - 8:28 a.m.

Bizarre mobbing incident late yesterday afternoon. The usual Bluejay fuss and cuss, with tons of dive-bombing in the low branches of the pine tree that sprang up where the fallen pin oak of Tropical Storm Bill (2003) used to be. They were joined by the Mockingbird and a number of smaller birds including a couple of unenthusiastic Downy Woodpeckers, various concerned Carolina Chickadees, and visibly tense Tufted Titmice. Nothing particularly bizarre about that, I suppose, since it's migration. The bizarre thing is that I could never see what they had. Apparently, it was something low down on the ground where I couldn't see it behind the fence. I was hoping for a small Screech Owl or a Sharpie/Cooper's, and I suppose it isn't unbelievable that a Cooper's had a BlueJay down on the ground where I couldn't see. But we'll never know.

A triumph of marketing: I have literally less than zero use for a cigarette lighter/USB holder that has the entire contents of Tyranny by Julian Casablancas + the Voidz. Especially since the entire album can be downloaded off his own website for less than $4. But it just looks cool. I didn't know those USB thingies could also light things on fire when they got bored...Fortunately this item was out of stock or I might have ordered it and then wondered later what it was good for other than getting seized by TSA at the airport.
