peeved-off hummingbird and peeved-off peachfront 2012-07-18 - 9:04 a.m. As I was grouting my new tabletop mosaic, a young Ruby-throated Hummingbird flew right up and looked me in the eye. Twice. Yeppers. The feeder was empty. Sigh. What's the scam? A guy on eLance invited me to bid on his eBook project. I don't know who the guy is, and I don't have any "jobs" or reviews on eLance, so I have to figure he knows who I am. Then he emails me that he has somebody else doing the eBook, but would I like to work for him by the hour and, oh, by the way, he has a picture of four kids posted on Facebook. Ugh. All in the rather bad grammar we associate with email scammers and Craigslist flakes. So I figure I'm being set up for something and I simply tell him I'm not going to work for him, as I don't work by the hour and I don't do Facebook. Um, I'm a professional, folks, so I will confess that I felt pretty insulted. I shouldn't have engaged in any discussion with the scammer at all. I know, I know. He wrote back in a huff that he wasn't trying to get me to "like" him on Facebook, so I figure that's exactly what he was trying to do.
