By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

i nearly lost my new hat at least four times today

2012-04-23 - 4:42 p.m.

A cool, cloudless day with lots of wind for our drive out to Fairhope, Alabama. We found our historic cottage, which is beautifully supplied with goodies, then we had lunch and strolled out to the pier, where a pan-handling Great Blue Heron was parading around with his huge fish, which he's telling the girls that he totally caught that fish, but I saw the fisherman slip it to him, so there. On our stroll back, we stopped in a thrift shop, where DH found an emerald green robe.

A fine sighting of an adult Bald Eagle right overhead, the sun shining through the white head and tail feathers, with at least four angry Crows hot on his heels.

Mostly, though, the wind put the kibosh on the birding, so we decided to tour Battleship Park, which includes the battleship Alabama, the submarine U.S. Drum, and who even knows how many aircraft scattered artfully around the park.

It's almost time for dinner, but we have found the free internet at the public library, tee hee. I have learned that the wind advisory is over at 6 P.M. so perhaps tomorrow will be more bird-friendly.
