big baby of a northern mockingbird, he's only a little bitter
2012-08-26 - 9:10 a.m.
The Northern Mockingbirds have been a little toned down this year, what with the neighbors chopping down a key tree, and the Eastern Bluebirds getting all stompy on their tails earlier in the season. However, they did have at least two nestings, and yesterday I got a huge laugh at the expense of one of the fledgling Mockingbirds who was hanging around. The bird came out and sat, looking aghast, at the many birds of other species who were coming and going from the feeder. I could hear him shaking his head in disgust: You call that food? It's SEED! After awhile he gave up with the envious staring and faded back into the bushes to cry for his parents.
