By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

post-crisis lull

2012-12-30 - 8:32 a.m.

A low key day but we got a lot done. Apparently, DH's father doesn't want a funeral, and they are scheduling the memorial some weeks in the future. DH was looking pretty awful Friday night but at least he got back some color in his face yesterday. He talked to my nephew awhile on the phone about the outer space watch he got for Christmas and some other technical projects. The kid is majoring in physics and engineering, at a school where he will actually have a chance. DH also put up a coat hook in a spot where I have finally figured out -- it only took me 20 years -- that he always likes to leave a jacket at the ready.

I reviewed the first 25 plates or so in the old Argentina bird book. There are plenty of bloopers in this book, but catching the bloopers is part of the learning, methinks. I had my first serious day of Nyota playing out for a prolonged period of time without actually flying onto (or trying to get into) Cookie's cage. I had to sit between her playpen and his cage while I studied. I also noticed that Cookie isn't the only one who is regurgitating food. She chewed up some of her Christmas candy-coated millet and fed it to her bell. Hmmm.

Recovered some of my old "Peachfront Conure Files" and wrote up the Arthur and Gwen early years for my peachfronted conure website. Set up Hootsuite to send out a tweet every day while I'm in Argentina.

Wouldn't it be wild if I actually saw wild Peachfront Conures again in Argentina? I'm starting to think there is actually a chance.
