2010-10-18 - 12:32 p.m. Rain, rain, rain, rain yesterday. A rather chill rain at that. A floorman told a tourist, straight-faced, "It only rains once a decade in Vegas, and you're here to see it." If by once a decade, you mean once a month, every time Peachfront comes to town... A decent win but I feel that it should have been more. I picked up Aces for the first time since I arrived, but my opponent was short-stacked, and all I got was his $100. Another time, I hit a set of Queens, and again my opponent was very short -- only $60. I got sets twice more that day, both times on Ace high flops. Both times, my opponents had enough to call the flop check-raise to $150, but then they wouldn't continue. Oh, and I rivered quad Aces, which netted a profit of $140 mostly because when I raise before the flop, I get so much respect that everybody calls. In this case, my raise is a semi-real hand, A ♥ Q ♣. But the flop itself is too scary: A ♦ A ♠ 5 ♠. Check to the nitty old man on the button, and he bets $60 to take a stab, but that's it. Everybody else folds, I check to him again on the turn to give him a chance to second barrel, which he doesn't. I then bet $200 on the final A ♣ which falls on the river, in case he'd checked to induce a bluff out of me with something like pocket Kings. But he's never putting any more money in that pot. Since he was the one person who almost never called my pre-flop raises, I'm not sure what hand he could have held. Some people might be taking a stab with the flush draw, but he wasn't playing suited connectors. Some middling pair like JJ, I suppose...hoping to buy himself a cheap showdown? How am I not always betting here after he checks that turn? Lunch at Noodle Asia. We shared everything -- the crispy Crab Rangoon, some kind of spicy Szechuan beef noodle soup, barbecued duck and pork over rice. The poker room was out of pomegranate martini so I snagged a Lemon Drop before I headed off for the night. The Saints showed up for work and actually didn't drop the ball this week. 31-6. Of course, their opponents weren't much.
