By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

smooth sailing back to the house

2007-03-14 - 8:49 a.m.

I'm back. Check out my review of London Wetland Center if you haven't already, or click back a few more to get my entire trip report. Not to brag, but the three life birds I gained at the center were Sparrowhawk (a nice male who approached very near to inspect the feeders), a pair of Green Woodpeckers working a bare tree trunk, and several nice male Reed Buntings.

The other life bird, seen on the trip, was Yellow-Legged Gull. I got the bird in Hyde Park, but around the same time some others were reported by other birders at the London Wetland Center.

My bag was considerably lighter coming back, since I shed the old black and white checked pants, two sweaters, and the 1980s style kilt, along with two pairs of pantyhose, all of the Nutri-Grain bars, all the tequila and mixer, and a few other small odds and ends here and there. When they weighed my bag at Gatwick, I saw that it had lost 10 pounds -- no wonder it was so easy to maneuver on various stairs to the tube and to the train on the way back.

Again we had the best coach seats in the house, 10 A and 10 B, for the flight over the Atlantic. I got first class upgrades for both me and my companion on the DTW-MSY leg. A lowly silver complained that he couldn't get his companion upgraded.

I have tons and tons of photos to edit and post. Stay tuned.

Hummingbird Report: I just put up the feeder and got immediate business from a female/immature Selasphorus -- a Rufus, probably, but I need to unpack the binoculars.
