Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

i don't know anything about football but don't let that stop me from ranting in my own diary

2013-02-04 - 7:48 a.m.

Ho boy, what a ridiculous Superbowl in the Superdome. While it was somewhat cringe-inducing to watch the Ravens stomp all over their opponents like they were kindergarten children, it isn't good for the city or good for the game that a huge power outage -- conveniently on the side of the team needing a miracle -- should cause such a long delay and change of momentum of the game. The Ravens still managed to hang onto the win, but they were not the same team after the blackout. Ugh.

It's a year where one feels that certain political entities would like to pick and choose who wins. Someone doesn't like the Saints, so their defense is too aggressive. (Yeah, right.) Someone doesn't it like it that a Ravens player was indicted for murder. So it would make a better story if the other team won. Yadda yadda yadda. As Bobby Fischer once said, "What does that have to do with chess?"

I had no rooting interest in either team before the game, but I like an appearance of fairness. I'll admit it. I'm glad the unpopular guy won even after "they" pulled the plug on their momentum.

State and federal taxes filed yesterday. One of the highest refunds I can remember in recent years.

Ah, nicely done. We bought a new microwave yesterday and I put a "curb alert" on Craigslist for the old heavy monster. Can't expect anyone to run around picking up scrap metal during the Superbowl pregame, but a guy with a scrap metal truck stopped by just now this morning as I was typing this entry.

More photos coming later this week from my northern Argentina trip. Stay tuned.
