Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

female blue grosbeak is a female indigo bunting

2003-03-25 - 9:52 a.m.

The female Blue Grosbeak is back and posing, and I was just wrong about her. She's a female Indigo Bunting. The streaks are very obvious on her breast. She seems to be making a point of displaying them whenever she lands on the Carolina Chickadee house.

It's funny how poorly the eye judges size. I was thinking of her as a larger bird because I keep seeing her on the Chickadee house, and of course she is much larger than the Chickadees.

The Chickadees, by the by, almost certainly have eggs. One of them was sitting very tightly this morning, and the other keeps bringing on the food. They don't seem bothered by the occasional larger birds who land on their house or the bend of the shepherd's hook.

I am slowly finding and arranging photographs. I hope to make this site a convenient reference for my various adventures, with back-ups on CD, of course. My biggest regret is that I didn't take more photographs over the years, because memories are perishable and mutable. However, all that camera equipment can get in the way, and one must live one's life in the moment. One doesn't want to become one of those awful people who think photographing the feast is more important than experiencing the feast.

I've posted four stories based on my photographs today, but I cheated a little, since some of them were edited down from past postings on my Rockin' High Roller site. It seems like they have a lot more space for picture hosting over there but they also have those annoying pop-ups.
