2003-03-24 - 8:35 a.m. The White-Throated Sparrow was singing this morning. They do sing in winter, but I have not heard anything like this before. I am not sure if I haven't heard it because they weren't singing, or if I haven't heard it because I am having such a struggle learning the different bird songs and, most times, you don't hear (or see) what you don't know. I cannot hear the phrases you are supposed to hear in this song: "Oh, Canada, Canada, Canada," or "Old Sam Peabody, Peabody, Peabody." Maybe you have to be a Canadian or a Yankee to hear these phrases. later I tried to photograph the collar-style necklace I made yesterday -- Biwa stick pearls, Labradorite (also known as Spectrolite) spacer beads, moonstone and sterling silver clasp. The Republicans wasted no time in trying to pass a bill to pick the pockets of our military personnel, who are otherwise occupied fighting in the desert. According to a press release issued by Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Ohio): "The Republican budget that will be considered on the floor today (Thursday, March 20) cuts discretionary funding for veterans health care below the level needed to maintain purchasing power at the 2003 level by a total of $14.2 billion over ten years. Their budget also directs the Veterans' Affairs Committee to cut $14.6 billion from mandatory benefit payments to veterans, including compensation for service-connected disabilities, burial benefits, and veterans education benefits."They have no shame. I don't know why I'm forever amazed at just how low they can go. later My birding diaryring has decided to show up. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if anyone else joins.
