will the chickadees nest again?
2003-04-23 - 3:00 p.m.
The Chickadees were investigating the nestbox again. It would be great if they raised another brood. The usual suspects were in the yard a few minutes ago -- Tufted Titmouse on the suet, Carolina Wren on the ground, Northern Cardinal on the seed feeder, Brown Thrasher picking up something large (beetles, maybe?) in the asparagus patch. The Mockingbirds come and go restlessly, flashing their wing bars and singing a variety of songs, including the Cardinal and the Titmouse ditties. No hummingbird action.

The Red-Headed Woodpecker has been banging on the metal insulators on the telephone pole to vary and enhance his drumming. When we first moved into our house years ago, a Red-Headed Woodpecker used to bang on the bedroom window, but he lost interest in the project after a few months.
The Blanketflowers are blooming abundantly in the wildflower patch. I started them from seed last year, and they never really died down. I even had a single flower in January.
