2014-12-30 - 11:00 a.m. May I offer some clues to the clueless? If you are a travel deals site *cough Travelocity cough* then don't bother sending me emails every day that tell me you're a travel deals website. If you want me to believe you're a travel deals website, send me an email with an actual deal in it. I'm hitting the unsubscribe button real hard these days, and your useless emails that never hold a coupon were the first to go this morning. I can't really unsubscribe to the airline emails, or maybe I can, because they're pretty useless too. What kind of idiot would BUY miles when miles are being devalued practically every other week? Miles were a great thing in their day, but their day was over 18 months ago. Now they're really little more than a scam. I feel bad for the travel bloggers who are now often promoting useless products but, at the end of the day, I'm unsubscribing a lot of them too. Time to move onto the next opportunity. While on the topic of clean-up, yesterday I dropped off a donation box of clothes and books that I couldn't sell which was almost too big to lift. A couple of the dresses -- well, several of them -- I was sorry to give away but they are not really appropriate to someone who has had my unfortunate number of birthdays. Depressing. later Just saw the story about the 17-year-old girl who committed suicide and scheduled her tumblr posts so that her parents couldn't cover up the truth. Heart-breaking. Evidently the parents were these fundy Midwestern types who couldn't accept a trans child and seemed to prefer a dead boy to a live girl. WTF? If someone feels strongly enough about something to jump in front of a truck, I think maybe her wishes should have been respected. But I already saw a news report describing her as a boy. Seventeen! One more year and she could have escaped these people. But sometimes one more year just seems too overwhelming. Very very sad story.
