disaster 2003-07-01 - 10:30 a.m. I am posting from the public library to let people know what is going on, especially my EBay customers. The eye of Tropical Storm Bill passed over last night at around 7 P.M. At that time, the floodwaters on our street began to subside, and we started to sigh a sigh of relief. Wet hummingbirds and baby mockers ventured out to feed, and I even saw four purple martins take to the air. Around 8:30 P.M. or perhaps a little earlier, as I was standing in the kitchen, I heard a tremendous slam and BF was shoved forward along the living room. The power, which had been going on and off constantly all evening, went off immediately, as did the telephone service. There is no telling when it will all be fixed, because the enormous old oak tree from the CLECO property is now in my living room with several branches thrust through the cathedral ceiling. There are more branches in my office. The bird porch is completely destroyed, and Cookie likely would have been killed if he had been in his usual spot. Everyone is safe, but the damage to the house is serious and extensive. I can't write any more right now. I hope to return with photographs in a few days but realistically it may be more like weeks or months before I'll be uploading pictures again. I don't know about my Brownsville trip now. I think I will have to find out if I can get my money back, but it may be too late. I am in shock. I am not used to large objects falling out of the sky and narrowly missing BF's head.
