We just got a call from DH's Harahan boss who lives in our same town. He couldn't get any electricians on the telephone, so he was reduced to driving around at random until he found one working on another job whereupon he begged him to come fix the thingy on our house so we can get electricity when the neighborhood gets power again. It cost a fortune, around $700 for a short amount of work. I hope the insurance company or FEMA or somebody understands that none of us are in any condition to negotiate price.
It's one more baby step on the road back to normality. Progress.
A gas gouging gas station in Alabama sold me some bad gas, so I spent like what seemed like all day Monday getting the car fixed. It's a lot better now but, again, another $200-plus expense. It's amazing how expensive even the little things can be.
On request from DH, here is a photo of the ceiling tiles that came down in the dining room:
You can see that there was no water. Wind did this, not water.
Here's the brand new area of the fence, which was just replaced after Tropical Storm Bill and the vicious dog incident, now completely blown down again:
It's enough to make you cry. My yard needs to be secure against dogs and children, because of the birds, not to mention because of myself.
later
Travelocity just sent DH a survey asking him how he enjoyed his recent trip to Calgary. Jesus wept. Hello, we did not go to Calgary because they were doing triage of the dead and dying on the damned baggage claim on the day we were scheduled to go.
Here's some re-runs of pictures from yesterday in case you missed the fun:
the two pictures above are the neighbors across the street, a probable total loss
the electric thingy that got fixed today at a price of around $700 just for that, yikes, and we don't have electricity
our poor house is more holey than righteous after katrina
