green dragon, green gem

2012-11-18 - 8:42 a.m.

Cookie, as a Yellow-crowned Amazon, is not a big believer in the concept of foraging. Whyever on this sweet green earth should he forage for food when he can just ask for it? However, there must be a touch of dragon in Cookie's background, because he gets on these kicks where he loves to collect shiny stones. Last night, he climbed out of his indoor cage to his playpen, found a Green Moss Agate he'd previously stashed there, and placed it back in his cage, well-concealed at the bottom of his food dish under some seeds. Then he climbed out again, onto and over the playpen, on to the kitchen counter, and over to Nyota's playpen, which is a terracotta pot full of tumbled stones to secure the bare branches of a former ficus tree. It's quite a tall pot, and Cookie had to go up on tippy-toes and feel around and pick up and examine and put down, until finally he grasped the largest tumble polished Green Moss Agate that he could possibly lift. He then went back to playpen and then into his cage, where he played with the stone assiduously, trying to crack it, bathing it, rolling it in seed husks, bathing it again...right now, this morning, he immediately went to both stones. You can almost hear the evil chortle as he enjoys his precious gems.
