Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

ready for a long winter's nap after that feast!

2013-01-02 - 12:08 p.m.

Whew. I slept from 9 PM to 9 AM last night. No wine with dinner so I guess I slept more deeply. But I've got to post the New Year's Eve feast before I forget:

Before dinner cocktails: Handmade organic satsuma vodka mixed with fresh-squeezed satsuma (Peachfront's Screwdriver) or fresh-squeezed Louisiana grapefruit (Louisiana Greyhound).

Appetizers: Deviled eggs, celery and carrot sticks.

Main course:

  • Slow-roast beef shanks avec cipolline sweet onions
  • Mashed cauliflower with coconut and cashew nut

Dessert: Home-made pumpkin pie

Coffee with a splash of old New Orleans style Praline liqueur

Midnight celebration: Italian Prosecco to toast the New Year

D. and I tried to find some decent birds on New Year's Day, but they were all in hiding -- probably terrified by the firecrackers. Best bird may have been the male and female Bufflehead.

Oh, and I made a turkey quiche for the New Year's Day brunch. I thought it came out very well. I changed up a few things for this New Year's Day though. Didn't have the traditional meal or the traditional champagne/Prosecco. I figured we had enough last night, and we were putting a focus on fitness for no need for mid-day bottles of bubbly!
