Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

lazy holidays

2013-12-30 - 10:58 a.m.

We seem to be spending DH's vacation just puttering around. I have put my old LPs and CDs in my iTunes library now, although some of the art is a tad iffy. I made a Best of 2013 mix playlist that came out pretty well, if I do say so myself. DH built some electronics project and fixed a lighting fixture in the kitchen. We need a new stove but won't look into that until the January sales, since the oven still works and it just isn't that urgent. Pretty sure his dad forgot to get him a Christmas gift but oh well. I still have a few bucks left to spend out of mine. I'll likely update Sheldon and Ronnie's indoor/winter cage, and then what? Probably won't get a foofy bottle of champagne, as the bubbly doesn't seem to agree with me any more. Hmm.

Some good books lately...I've now started Dan Simmons' Abominable, and it's going great so far. It's a bit in the spirit of winter, especially as I'm reading it right after Gavin Francis' Empire Antarctica.

Did I mention that a Mandeville local called the Iceland Gull the Canada Gull? Iceland, Canada, it's all the same to a good old boy taking his retriever out for a swim in the lake.
