mad as a wet mocker 2003-07-19 - 6:21 p.m. It has been a good summer for Mississippi Kites. I saw at least three circling before a late afternoon thunderstorm. The tarp is still holding, but I would feel a lot more comfortable if we had a real roof and real gutters on the place. As I looked out the bedroom window at the last of the storm, I saw more evidence that my Mockingbirds do not play nicely with others -- even with soaking wet feathers, they were doing their best to chase off the Brown Thrashers. Earlier in the day, around noon, we'd gone out to weigh a box for one of my eBay customers. 32 pounds, youch! When I got back, I saw that someone else had ordered even more weight. I'll have to ship his order in two boxes, no way around it. We had a burger and a beer at Times Grill for lunch. Actually, I had the portabella mushroom burger, which was excellent. I wonder why I never think of making one at home? Maybe the next time the mushroom guy is at the Mandeville market, I'll give it a whirl. Afterward, we checked out the new grocery store in Covington, where they were having taste testings of every kind, including Michelob Ultra.
