mahogany
2006-10-19 - 8:53 a.m.
We went to the stylin' fusion restaurant in the foofy boutique hotel. It's called Tangerine and had a loop of girls swimming underwater over the bar. I told D. that in the olden times in Florida, back before Disney, they had "mermaids" who would actually swim in a tank in some restaurant in Florida, but I doubt he believed it. And he didn't seem to put much credence in the story of the glass-bottomed boats, either. These suspicious modern times.
In any case, my menu was thus: -
Diamond Chocolate Martini
- Hot Cracker/Flat Bread with Hummus
- Taro-Taro Ginger Creme Soup
- Oriental Vegetables
- Red Snapper with Chopped Tomato Salsa
Actually, I didn't quite have that, since everything had a snappy song title name instead of a name like "Red Snapper with Chopped Tomato Salsa." But in the flattering darkness of the restaurant, mostly lit by the mermaid loop, the blue lighted water walls, and the fat tangerine candles, I didn't think to jot down any notes, even assuming I could have seen my notes in the glare from the businessmen's gold watches.
The casino was as promised all carved mahogany lobby lit by oversized chandeliers but the game selection was unimpressive. I blame it partly on this being the slowest and rainiest type of year, but mostly on tightness of the casino in question. Got to pay to keep the endless halls of carved mahogany polished somehow.
Yesterday's bird list in order seen:
- Common Ground Dove
- Zenaida Dove
- Puerto Rican Bullfinch -- immature -- sigh
- Bananaquit -- no shortage of them
- Northern Oriole -- female
- Rock Dove
- Common Tern -- hunting, caught something too
- White-Winged Dove
- Magnificent Frigatebird -- female
- Brown Pelican
- Greater Antillean Grackle
- Gray Kingbird
- Belted Kingisher -- and he did have a small fish
