meteor right or meteor wrong?
2012-01-04 - 12:42 p.m.
Got skunked on the meteor shower last night. Woke about 2 A.M. and stumbled outside
but the red moon was still setting. Went back to sleep. Got a text at
3 A.M. complaining about the lack of meteor shower action. Stumbled back outside.
It was so cold that I could see my breath, and the birds' heat lamps had come on,
so I didn't have great viewing conditions from the backyard. I could look out
over the house at the Big Dipper and the area toward Bootes, but I had to keep my
arm up to sort of block the light from the bird porch from coming up from
underneath and killing my night vision. I saw no meteors and didn't know if
it was because they were too faint or they just weren't there. Peeped into the
front yard, but it's Mandeville, and I can't remember the last time that the
streetlight got shot out. It was just too bright and directly in the north.
Tried the backyard again. Got another indignant text that I had the time
wrong. Sigh. Gave up and went back to bed. Although I think I didn't
really have the time wrong. I think the meteors didn't come out to play
at my house.
Got a load of stones out of my new tumbler. Will have to refine the polishing
technique a little bit, especially for the Obsidian, but some of the
Agates look pretty sweet. My favorite is a large blue Chalcedony
puzzle piece. I've already placed it in the mineral cabinet.
Well, I'm off to South Africa. Business Elite, of course. I should be back
to my regular daily posts in February.
