Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

The bird list isn't impressive, but I backed into a few lifers. Perhaps the most dramatic sighting was the beautiful pair of Bullfinches on the walk toward Neuschwanstein, the Sleeping Beauty Castle. The feeders along the walk to Linderhof attracted the interest of four species of tits, mostly Great Tits and Coal Tits, but I got a bold Marsh Tit and a Blue Tit there as well. The Coal Tits had an amusing habit of raising their derisory crests.

  1. Bean Goose
  2. Greylag Goose
  3. Mallard
  4. Common Pochard
  5. Tufted Duck
  6. Eurasian Coot
  7. Black-headed Gull
  8. Rock Dove
  9. Great Spotted Woodpecker
  10. Winter Wren
  11. Marsh Tit
  12. Coal Tit
  13. Great Tit
  14. Blue Tit
  15. Eurasian Nuthatch
  16. Eurasian Magpie
  17. Rook
  18. Carrion Crow
  19. Eurasian Bullfinch

The Nuthatches put on a great show as they did their thing on the bark, but the Great Spotted Woodpecker did not hang around, and I'll put him on the list as a "better view desired."
