part 8 of our point pelee trip report: NOW it rains?

2007-05-10 - 8:47 a.m.

Stupid weather. Wednesday was the day of storms, and so today (Thursday) will undoubtedly be the huge fall-out of warblers at Point Pelee. Unfortunately, the vacation was over, and we had to drive out on Wednesday morning. We left early, concerned about the crossing at Windsor, especially since DH's last name is one of "those" last names, but everything went smoothly at the border and we had oodles of time to explore Ann Arbor before our flight.

The original plan was to explore Nichols Arboretum. The relentless thunderstorms pushed us into the Natural History Museum instead. They had two, count 'em, two local mastodons, and a huge Edmontosaurus. After an Appletini and chicken taco special at a colorful local pub called the Red Hawk, we strolled over to the Museum of Archeology, which featured an impressive Egyptian sarcophagus. Finally, we did peek into the park for a stroll to the river but it turned into a jog from the river up the hill and down the street to escape the return of the pounding rain. We had to change our clothes in the car before heading out to the airport.

The very last bird of the trip was, as you may have already guessed, Canada Goose sailing serenely on the river.

Photos, lists, more coming soon!
