out of glue

Finally finished the papier macheƩ wastepaper basket. I used torn
strips of old, outdated road maps, then spray-painted the exterior with
gold metallic before pouncing it with watered-down acrylic paint. It came
out OK for a first effort but I can see all the imperfections and I might keep
this one for my home office -- which means I should start a second one for
the guest bedroom
project. Had to drop off the car at the shop yesterday. Argh.
Plentiful Ruby-Throated Hummingbird visitation despite the heat wave. A
cute sight just now -- a timid Tufted Titmouse longs to approach the
seed feeder but hangs back, intimidated by the omni-present Brown Thrasher
who never seems to stop eating. Finally, the poor Titmouse makes a
mad dart, dash, and grab. He was there and gone so fast that the Thrasher
didn't even bother to lift his beak from the trough.
