Read my new book, The 10 Best Things You Can Do For Your Bird at Amazon or at many other fine distributors like Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more.

By public demand, and after a delay of an embarrassing number of years, I've finally put my notorious essay, Ender and Hitler: Sympathy for the Superman, free on the fabulous internets.

A bibliography of my published books and stories.

Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

amazons love to laugh, sometimes they even sing for a brief shining hour

2014-05-13 - 8:47 a.m.

Cookie has found another record he likes enough to sing along to with all kinds of parrot-y trills and rolls. OK, sports fans, if you're keeping score that means that in 22 years of living in this house, he has now deigned to sing along with three -- count 'em -- three records.

The truly stalkerish reader (who may not exist) will already know that the first two records to inspire Cookie to burst into song were Pink Floyd's Obscured by Clouds and The Strokes' Is This It.

From that, you probably know all you need to know to guess what got this talented yellow-crowned Amazon to sing last night.

Yes, of course. There is only one logical choice.

Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails.

Nope, I can't figure it out either. But he was happy to sing along with every track all the way through "Ringfinger" so I don't think he was just humoring me.

It would be pretty funny to see what Pandora or YouTube would suggest after he favorited those three but I guess we'll never know...

Some playful Amazons on YouTube who also share a huge sense of humor:
