how woodpeckers say good morning
2012-10-15 - 7:46 a.m.
Someone just knocked on the door. I looked out, only to see a Carolina Wren on the stoop. Eh, maybe not. As I pondered, I heard it again. I couldn't see the culprit, but I suspect a woodpecker. Went and looked from another angle, out the window, and saw another Wren and the female Northern Cardinal sitting in the small shrub the front door. Funny how tiny the Cardinals look when you're touching distance close to them.
Didn't see the door knocking culprit though. I vote Red-bellied Woodpecker, since the adult pair was very active around the house yesterday. But the last time I caught a bird knocking on the house, it was Red-headed.
A moment later: Duh. It's almost like kids knocking on the door asking if the other kid can come out to play. I just realized that almost every morning Nyota has been upfront in that window sorta trilling, sorta chatting to the wild birds outside. However, today she's in the back. Soon, kids!
