Hurricane Wilma is now a Cat 5.

From nola.com:

Cat 5 Wilma reaches 175 mph

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras (AP) Gathering strength at a fierce pace, Hurricane Wilma swirled into the most intense Atlantic storm ever recorded Wednesday, a Category 5 monster packing 175 mph wind that forecasters warned was "extremely dangerous."

...Wilma's top sustained winds reached 175 mph early Wednesday in the most rapid strengthening ever recorded in a hurricane, said meteorologist Hugh Cobb of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. At the same time Tuesday, Wilma was only a tropical storm with winds of 70 mph.

Its confirmed pressure readings Wednesday morning dropped to 882 millibars the lowest ever measured in a hurricane in the Atlantic basin, according to the hurricane center. The strongest on record based on the lowest pressure reading is Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, which dipped to 888 millibars.

One of Cookie's previous owners, the one who lived across the street, came by to see how Cookie made it. However, I think he really came by to see how his old house, which he was sort of cheated out of, made it, and then he remembered to ask about Cookie when he saw me. He didn't get out of the car and actually come in to see Cookie, which I would have done in his shoes. That's OK. Cookie had a small fan club of CLECO guys visit him to hear him speak the same day.

My evacuee found a little purse, with no identification in it, but with four one hundred dollar bills rolled up with a rubber band. He left a note on the nearest car which said, "If you lost something, call me and describe it." She didn't at first, and we started to think he had guessed the wrong car, but then she did. She gave him $50 for a reward.

Hummingbird Report: No hummingbirds yesterday or so far today, but I haven't been keeping the window open so much because of the bright sunlight out there since I'm facing south and both oak trees are gone. Lots of butterflies. One Pileated Woodpecker, laughing.

The kind of crap you just don't want to read anywhere but an old, yellowed history book:

There has never been a hurricane like Wilma before. With an unbelievable round of intensification that saw the pressure drop 87 mb in just 12 hours, Wilma smashed the all-time record for lowest pressure in an Atlantic hurricane this morning. The 4 am hurricane hunter report put the pressure at 882 mb, easily besting the previous record of 888 mb set in Hurricane Gilbert of 1988. Since no hurricane hunter airplane has been in the eye since then, Wilma may be even stronger now....This is an incredibly compact, amazingly intense hurricane, the likes of which has never been seen in the Atlantic. The Hurricane Season of 2005 keeps topping itself with new firsts, and now boasts three of the five most intense hurricanes of all time--Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. -- Jeff Masters' Blog earlier this morning
