2003-01-05 - 8:52 a.m. At last we had the long-awaited dinner at Emeril's. Present and accounted for were D., his mom, BF, and me. I wore my green leather and suede North Beach leather dress, "like crockwork" boots, and my full-length white mink coat. I wore a choker of hand-strung malachite/azurite and 14 karat gold beads, using the 1980's "party" pin as a pendant enhancer. D. wore his suede dinner jacket from some Caesar's Forum Shoppes designer for men that I always forget the name of. BF managed to slip in despite wearing black tennis shoes rather than dress shoes. The wine was Robert Mondavi's Unfiltered Napa Merlot '99. I think it's the same wine we always get there. Excellent. I had lobster cheese cake, butter-fried stuffed quail, and key lime pie. BF had the barbecued shrimp and the quail special, which was a curry with millet and grapes. His dessert was the bourbon pecan pie. D. had corn cakes with caviar, some kind of hunter's gumbo, grilled mahi mahi, and sorbet. We did a switch where I gave him part of my cheese cake and he gave me one of his corn cakes. His mom had turtle soup, rack of lamb, and the strawberries Romanov that we all shared last time. It was a feast. When we first sat down, M. leaned forward to say that she had recognized someone at the next table, and I thought it was going to be some local celeb or politician, but it was actually another teacher. The teacher came over and introduced herself after a few minutes. That was pretty amusing. We were all laughing and being silly and having a great time but, alas, the evening ended early because BF had to get back home and get packed for his trip to Arkansas. Since I got two quails with my order, I still have one in the take-home aluminum wrapped in the shape of a fan-tailed dove, and it's mine, all mine, bwahahahaha!
I reheated the quail and potatoes. Excellent. No more quail and potatoes. The following seeds have germinated: Beefsteak Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Garlic Chives, Chives. The San Marzano Tomatoes look a little moldy, alas. The Parsley seeds are just starting to swell. I took the germinated seeds off the paper towels and transferred them to soil. I discovered some clumps of Garlic Chives growing outside as well, which is odd, because they have to be from the seed I planted last year which stubbornly refused to do anything. I also discovered a baby Parsley plant. The other outdoor Parsley plant is looking very green but still hasn't gotten very big. I would love to have an entire garden box of Parsley plants again this year. Some years the caterpillars won't tolerate it, though.
