banging head on trumpet honeycreeper vine

2003-03-03 - 10:11 a.m.

Hilarious. I was just watching an aggressive little male Downy Woodpecker bang the crap out of some old, gnarled trumpet honeycreeper vines. The vines still look dead, and I suppose he was hoping for rot and insects, but they will be back good as new in a few weeks.

I just made some jello shots with Smirnoff Citrus Twist vodka and orange jello for Mardi Gras tomorrow. I've never made them before, so it should be an interesting experiment to see how they turn out.

I know D. ordered the Roy Jones Jr. fight on Saturday night but I forgot all about it at the time. I wouldn't have gone over to watch anyway and fight all that Mardi Gras traffic.

In 1999, BF and I were comped to watch him fight Reggie Jackson in the Biloxi Coliseum. Jackson put up a good fight and somehow managed to avoid being knocked out, but it was clear that he was hopelessly outclassed. Since then, it has become obvious that Jones is just too good to get a decent fight with someone his own size. So now in hopes of creating a more exciting match, he is putting on weight and taking on bigger men. I hear John Ruiz, the man he just defeated for the WBA heavyweight title, outweighed him by quite a bit.

Now the internet rumor mill is trying to stir up interest in Jones versus Lewis. I don't know. I don't like to see a fight unless it looks like a close match because I don't like to see one fighter getting pushed around the ring. So Jones is not always the most exciting fighter because he so often totally outclasses his opponents. But I'm not sure that he could reasonably be expected to move up to someone Lennox Lewis's size. Lewis is a huge man, while Jones had to struggle to get up to 193 pounds for Saturday's fight.

Here's the link to my review of the Tyson/Lewis fight in June 2002. Angelfire is too slow, and the pop-up and banner ads are getting pretty annoying, so I'll probably move some of those pictures and stories over to Diaryland when I get a chance.
