more canals than venice and more fog too 2004-01-26 - 2:26 p.m. We have arrived in Amsterdam. The flight out was long and tiring for not any discernible reason. The security was alert and efficient, and the Kenya Airways outbound flight was on time and extremely smooth, but I think I am a bit road-weary. The last bird seen from Nairobi was the Black Kite. As I was making a note in my paper diary to this effect, a security guard asked to see what I was writing. I'm sure he was concerned that I was making notes about security precautions and was hugely amused to see that I was writing about birds. We enjoyed onion soup and a liter of a highly dubious wine last night, but today we have more energy and have already explored the Hermitage exhibit at the New Church despite the gloom and fog.
