hold the presses 2003-02-26 - 11:09 a.m. An editor at a large science fiction publishing house has contacted BF about possibly publishing his novel through conventional means. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. More later. Sweet Ronnie, the conure in the picture at the top of my diary, had an infected eye, and I had to take her to the Bird Hospital. She's doing OK now, and in a few minutes I'm going to leave to pick her up. Whew. My Ruby-Throated Hummingbird female is still here, assuming she's the same one. She's feeding right now, both from the abutilon and the feeders. Last night a friend and I visited a casino somewhere within driving range. We feasted on their dime at their seafood house, where the fried soft shell crab was to die for. He gave an equally enthusiastic thumbs up to the stuffed lobster. Unfortunately, we had to beat a hasty retreat this morning to evade a suspicious pit boss. It reminded me of all the crap I had to contend with back in the day when I was playing cards. People do make a lot of money doing this, but I just wasn't materialistic enough to deal with the hassle once I'd gotten all the bills paid and taken care of the basics. My friend has more of the work ethic and reported that he has now ordered a pair of genuine crocodile shoes.
