and purple finch yet again
2007-03-26 - 10:00 a.m.
I watched the yard for a few minutes this morning. A female RTHU is using the feeder in the hummer garden -- the only feeder I've got up right now. An eclipse-plumaged American Goldfinch is still hanging around. And, to my surprise, I again saw the same female Purple Finch. I guess she somehow got separated from her flock and has stayed in the area all winter. I imagine she'll be leaving soon though, so I might as well enjoy her while she lasts.
I've never, once, seen the flocks of Purple Finches described by Lowery. I don't know if it's just bad luck or if it happens more in a more northern part of the state or what. I'm sure it would be a sight to see.
