stinky feet

2010-10-14 - 11:18 a.m.

Awful crowded flights MSY-ATL-LAS yesterday. In keeping with Delta's "lack of a culture of getting flights out on time," as a former Northwest employee put it, they didn't get the first flight out on time. Good thing we had a long connection. A couple days ago, I noticed that we were booted out of the good seats, and we had to struggle to get any decent seats at all. I got back in the aisle exit row, but IMOM's were less desirable, to put it kindly. No upgrades on these packed planes. The service was absolutely abysmal on ATL-LAS, with only one drink service for a four and a half hour flight. They claimed turbulence, and maybe it was so, for a few minutes. But at some point, the passengers were just giving up and getting up to use the lav anyway. You can't keep the light on for four hours and expect nervous people, especially nervous seniors, to hold their water. They just can't do it, even if you do deprive them of liquids...

The man next to me was remarkable for having stinky feet. Since I don't have a very strong sense of smell, I have to believe that he had very stinky feet indeed. What would you do? I think the flight attendant should have told him something. But I'm not in the mood to discuss it with a guy who was -- easily -- at least twice my size and of unknown temperament.

The other issue is, I didn't know exactly what he could do about it. His shoes were themselves just God-awful, and he did secure them in an overhead bin, so we didn't have to smell them. But a man can't remove his feet. I guess he might have washed them...but he was barely small enough to fit in the lav, much less get a foot in the sink. So maybe there's no point bringing up the subject, if all you're going to do is embarrass the guy, and yet he isn't going to be able to fix the issue.

Collapsed and slept for 10 or 11 hours. It's that time of month and that time of century. We've got the same hotel room guaranteed for 9 nights, so at least we won't have to worry about a lot of moving around.

Got an email about low holiday fares and snagged one immediately for myself. Go me.
