trampled underfoot

More than half of the hummingbird garden is now officially trampled into the dirt. From the border of Echinacea purpurea and Spiderwort in front, to the Blanketflower and Sunflowers in the back, not to mention all the ivy and morning glory along the side of the old fence...gone, all gone. To my surprise, the Crimson Climber is staging a come-back up the old hummingbird feeder post. I need to get another hummingbird feeder for that spot. According to the report I received this morning, four winter hummingbirds had already returned to Louisiana in late July, including one bird not too far away in Covington, which was an older Rufous Hummingbird previously banded here in 2001.
