it's all happenin' at the zoo,
i do believe it's true, unless it gets rained out, ya'll
So this morning DH got his teeth cleaned at the new local dentist, and
they admired his crowns. Turns out one of the women in the office gets
cosmetic treatments (botox?) in Mexico.
yeah, the dragonfly cruncher
In the evening, we attended the 2005 Zoobilation party at Audubon Zoo.
We headed straight for the pelican feeding, because it's unpopular, and we
could be sure of a good show without all the pushing and shoving you might
get at, say, the vicious man-eating lion or crocodile feeding. Lots of wild birds, such as Great Egret, Snowy Egret,
and Black-Crowned Night Heron, hanging out in hopes of getting their share of
the take. Before the feeding, one of the Snowy Egrets was catching bright
blue dragonflies right out of the air as an appetizer. During the feeding,
a Black-Crowned Night Heron actually climbed on an African Pelican's back and
clung tight in its pursuit of the free meal. We all laughed until the poor
pelican shook him off.
No more wine sales at the party, just beer. Boo. I didn't say anything
when they stopped the Jack Daniels sales, because I'd gotten old and tired
and no longer drank much bourbon. And so now they've done away with the wine.
Double boo.
We spent much of the time at indoor events like the Reptile House and the Tropical
Bird House because of rain or threat of rain. Backstage in the Reptile House was
the cutest little baby mata mata. I'm talking tiny. The Keel-Billed Toucans were
dueting and dancing at each other, which was a very loud experience in that space.
In the end, because the rain wasn't going to give up, we had to leave a little early.
So I've downloaded my pictures, and now I think I'm going to find that glass of wine.
hey, it's a zoo party, gotta have at least
one picture of a genuine captive bird, here's the cape thick knee
