merlin feasting on her bloody, headless prey

A spectacular morning at Fontainebleau State Park, featuring a
beautiful female Merlin feasting bloodily on her headless prey.
We birded from 7 to 9 A.M. and saw a number of special birds
including a first autumn Sora that walked almost right up to us
and a number of Sedge Wrens. The first bird of the day was a
low-flying Bald Eagle. Monarchs and juvenile Red-Headed Woodpeckers
fluttered pleasantly throughout the park.
