the mexico birding adventure continues...

2016-11-13 - 7:30 a.m.

So the trip report... as I said previously, we slipped into Chiapis out of order to escape the blockades, causing us to lose time & efficiency. We headed back to pickup the glorious Orange-Breasted Bunting & other thorn forest specialties. The next day was a classic 3rd world goat rodeo-- a flat tire that could not be replaced by those tire guys on every corner, getting trapped for hours by a blockade of bitter guys clutching machetes. I have no idea of the blockade's purpose, one of the guys got bored enough to wander forward to ask but seemed to get no answer other than it was likely dudes would get bored & break it off at 4 or 5 or 6... I think ultimately they drifted off around 5ish without extracting any donations or promoting any causes. So who knows. Mayhap it is some obscure rural mating ritual meant to impress bored local females.

Result: We all tried to shower at the same time, causing the water to cut off just as I had a head full of shampoo, eeeeeekkkkk!

Despite these adventures, I had fine views of short-tailed hawk soaring low over us at the OB Bunting place, as well as fine views of the male Red-Breasted Chat despite reaching his spot during the heat of high noon, so don't think all was lost.

Will update final thrilling day ASAP...
