2014-11-23 - 12:11 p.m. We had a decadent Friday evening at Dakota. A shrimp amuse, crabmeat & brie soup, butterfish scattered with oysters and an oyster dressing on the side, Banana Split creme brule for dessert. DH had his own appetizer (some sort of pizza-like flatbread) and main course (the salmon), but we split a single dessert. We also split a bottle of Pinot Noir, and we each had a shot of the local Irish Creme with dessert. I guess I had another dessert after the dessert, because I was also comped a sort of Aztec-influenced chocolate martini with hot pepper flakes in it. Wheeeee! Seems like I must have floated back to the hotel. Saturday was supposed to be rainy. It was in fact pretty gray but we went back to the lakefront and strolled about, looking for coots and their predators, the bad-tempered Bald Eagle, but we didn't see either species. Oh, and we also stopped by the Mandeville market, which seems to be more of a handcraft than food market now. We did taste test and ultimately buy some tabasco pepper jelly though. In the afternoon we went to the theater to see Interstellar. Despite the corny elements -- pun fully intended -- it was a decent movie to have a chocolate martini and then a couple of dreamsicle martinis and watch outer space go by. Back home this morning and back to reality. Don't know when I'll need to consume another calorie... Oh, and we got our early voting out of the way. Not very vacationy, I suppose, but it was quicker than doing it later. It isn't like we're going to suddenly change our minds and vote for the other dude. The hotel was almost empty until this morning at breakfast, which is I suppose why they were giving away rooms for almost no price in points. It wasn't real busy this morning, but I guess a few visiting family members are starting to arrive since eek! Thanksgiving is on Thursday! Too late to buy a frozen turkey, and the price of fresh ones are outrageous this year. So I guess we'll be having a roast crispy chicken...
