Here's a simple card-counting FAQ to get you up to speed on the basics. Here's the true story of the notorious DD' blackjack team, told for the first time on the fabulous internets. No other team went from a starting investor's bankroll of zero to winning millions of dollars.

not your charlie brown kite tree

2004-05-09 - 8:06 a.m.

At least two Kites have been working together breaking off twigs from the oak tree and carrying them off. They return at very short intervals; the new nest can't be very far away. A lone Kite is sitting in the oak tree, a second was just chased out of the oak and into the pine by a third. There is definitely a colony of nesting Mississippi Kites somewhere very close.

Earlier one of the Kites swooped out of the tree and into the yard, in front of my office window, but if the bird succeeded in catching anything, it was too small for me to see.

later

What is it about the window today? Earlier, a female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird came right up and looked in at me. Just now, a Carolina Chickadee bonked his head on the window. In case one of the feral cats materialized, I hurried out and picked him up. He had a good strong grip with both feet, although he was panting and dazed. He didn't want to let go of my hand but, cute as he is, I put him in a tangle of vines to give him some cover while he gets his strength back. He's already stopped panting and started looking around. I think he'll be fine.

later

A first-year male Orchard Oriole just stopped by the troubled pine tree. He stayed long enough for DH to have a chance to see him.

The Chickadee is fine. The Hummingbirds didn't like him sitting in the vines so close to the feeder, but he was able to fly deeper into the vegetation. Everything is in working order. He just needs a bit more rest before he does any serious flying.

The Kites were very busy around 5, and at least one of them is still breaking twigs off the oak tree to carry elsewhere.

Hummingbird Report: At least one male and one female RTHU.
