It's the 4th anniversary of when Katrina made landfall in Louisiana, and reporter Chris Rose (without notable success) tried to find out the economic impact of the fleur-de-lis, a symbol of New Orleans which has become almost obnoxious in its ubiquity. That said, the tiles above are not from New Orleans but from Lisbon and, I'll presume, a nod to the House of Bourbon rather than to "New Orleans gonna rise again, yall." You have to have a sense of humor in this world. After weeks -- months -- of being remarkably resistant to exercise, just as DH and I were getting frisky, then Cookie decides to stage a riot. "Take me out, take me out, TAKE ME OUT!" he chanted over and over. And yet, somehow, I already know that when I go to take him out in a little while, he'll climb around on his playpen for five or ten minutes and then sneak back to the comforts of his cage. later And so I timed him. Four minutes. Four freaking minutes from the time he came out of his cage to the time when he re-introduced himself back into his cage. It would have been three minutes except that I shook my head and made a scornful remark as he started to climb back inside. So his pride was hurt, and he had to prove that he could hang out and exercise...for a full sixty seconds longer. The amount of time that it took for him to hesitate at his door, climb back to the top of his cage, then shrug off the scorn and climb back down. Amazons! The apocryphal Amazon parrot lived in the same tree all his life and, if the tree was cut down, was happy to hop onto the arm of the logger and become his pet. Cookie is that Amazon.
