robin's egg blue 2012-07-05 - 8:52 p.m. I found a broken robin's egg today. No clue where it came from. Years ago, long before this diary started, we once had the robins nest in our yard, and, yes, they did hatch in the heat of summer and go on to fledge three successful babies, but when I found the broken egg that time, all I had to do was look up to see the branch of the old oak tree where they nested. That tree came down in Bill, and the rest came down in Katrina, so I have no idea where this egg shell could have come from. Someone on the list serv said she saw baby just-fledged robins hopping about in New Orleans the other day. Why do they migrate all the time if they can tolerate the heat of July? Really whackadoo, but maybe it's our once in 12 year time for robins. Saw three Swallow-tailed Kites flying over Hwy 22 but nothing odd about that.
