yard update spring 2005
2005-04-06 - 7:40 a.m.

2005 by Elaine Radford and Roger Williams
male harpy eagle, summit zoo, panama
Don't forget to check out my Panama trip report for the story of our visit to see the spring migration of raptors in Panama, Central America.
A few notes about happenings around the house on the days I was posting my trip report:
- Pretty much constant visits from both male and female RTHUs, with quite a number of chases
- Another sighting of the Swallow-Tail Kite, this time a pair swooping very low over the aviary roof
- A male RTHU trying to chase away a Carolina anole, a bright green one, who was doing nothing more sinister than sunning on the shepherd's hook of the near feeder
- A Northern Mockingbird chasing a squirrel down the telephone wire for quite a distance, hitting it a few times on the back
- The butterflies are back, including a large male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and another Monarch pumping its wings
- Both satsuma trees are in full bloom with a snowfall of white citrus flowers -- yes, even the troubled tree in the front yard
In other news, I fuss over the baby Siamese Fighting Fish a little, but they're doing fine.

There is trouble in paradise. The Japanese bird book is out of print. Did you ever hear of such a thing? I'm only a little bitter.
