duct and cover 2003-02-13 - 11:58 a.m. Whoo hoo, bourbon pecan pie! Yesterday's feast was a big success. This morning I saw the dermatologist again about removing that red sunspot or whatever it is. She ran enough electricity through it to light up the town of Covington. I'll have to wait and see if it worked. The CIA tells us that North Korea has a delivery system for its nuclear weapons. Hmmm. Trouble is, I was born in 1958, so I've heard that song and dance before. I was "missile gapped" since birth. Until the 1990s, when the Soviet Union collapsed and it became pitifully obvious that they'd never had that much in the way of a delivery system, I'd lived my whole life under the shadow of the "We could all be destroyed with 15 minutes warning" hoax. People can and do get used to any level of terror and mostly ignore it. I will assume that kids today are just as tough as we were and will soon learn how to sing, "Duct and cover! Duct and cover!" with the proper ironic tone. Sigh. There should have been prosecutions for the mega-billions stolen by the defense industry during the 1950s through the 1980s. When a crime goes unpunished, it is only natural for the criminals to keep cashing in.
