jumbo shrimp 2003-04-19 - 9:53 a.m. Last night I made some fried shrimp with the gigantic 16/18 shrimp. It will soon be too hot to grow fresh lettuce, but for now I could also make a salad with my own greens. On the side were home-made French fried potato and carrot sticks. Oh yeah! We ate outside, and the box turtles came nosing around, but they drifted off in a huff when they realized that we didn't have any corn on the cob. Cookie gleefully consumed three carrot sticks and had a general attitude of, Those turtles have no idea of what they're missing. Prime Intellect update: A leading agent has asked to see BF's book proposal. Since agents no longer read manuscripts from unknown writers, it's clear that the editor's name from the literary imprint has opened a door. Of course, there is no guarantee that she will actually want to represent the book, but it's a first step. I don't think most people truly understand that the door to publication is closed to unknown writers without contacts. People, including family members, ask me about getting published as if I could do something because I've sold a few bird books. Here and there on diaryland, I encounter writers who are full of sadness because they can't get published. They don't realize that no judgment has been passed on the value of their work, for their work has not even been read. Chickadee update: A Carolina Chickadee returned to the nestbox a few minutes ago and peeped in. Will they start a second clutch?
